Our mission as an organization is to celebrate Shayla's achievements by providing academic opportunities for other students in honor of her academic achievements, her school pride, her spirit and her inspiration; by providing students a scholarship that supports the educational advancement of under served academia in disproportionate communities. To continue Shayla's life work through the life of other individuals who will study in performing arts and those who major in chemistry. To inspire these students to move forward in their greatness, to appreciate the gift of a valued education and to become empowered to pay it forward.

Our Mission
Shayla Marie Chavis was always selected for Academically Gifted course work throughout her life and she also scored in the Top 10 percent of North Carolina students every year in all subjects for state standardized testing. At the same time, Shayla was earning high test scores while acting in major roles, performing on the athletic field
Shayla Marie Chavis was always selected for Academically Gifted course work throughout her life and she also scored in the Top 10 percent of North Carolina students every year in all subjects for state standardized testing. At the same time, Shayla was earning high test scores while acting in major roles, performing on the athletic field, and taking extremely difficult course work at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School in order to pursue a degree in Chemistry, which she ultimately would complete at North Carolina Central University. All of this hard work brought Shayla numerous scholarships and opportunities to work with other scientists on NASA projects.
Shayla’s goal once she completed her PHD in chemistry was to start a scholarship and to give back to students with her same passion for success regardless of the obstacles in front of them. For this reason many people were touched by Shayla’s short, but meaningful life and untimely passing on August 31st, 2020, which caused them to spring into action to finish her dream. Therefore, we endeavor to provide Academic and performing arts scholarships to under-served and disadvantaged students who come from low-moderate income residents through the Shayla Marie Chavis Pay It Forward Scholarship Fund with the charity provided by our wonderful donors and partners. There will be two scholarships each year. One will be given to a student excelling in Chemistry, in which Shayla majored, graduating Cum Laude (c/o 2020) from NCCU and Performing Arts which Shayla performed in her spare time!
